How to get Kool-Aid out of your carpet.

When it comes to Kool-Aid spot removal, each color/flavor has the potential to stain various surfaces, so you’ll want to act quickly! There are a few ways to tackle the removal of a Kool-Aid spot, but here’s just one way that we find effective:

  1. Act as quickly as possible before the stain sets into the carpet fibers. Use clean paper towels to soak up as much Kool-Aid as you can. And remember, always blot, don’t scrub!
  2. Take 1 cup of warm water and mix it with ½ teaspoon of mild liquid dishwashing detergent.
  3. Apply this cleaning solution directly onto the spot with a clean white cloth. Start from the outside of the Kool-Aid, and work your way in; be careful not to spread the stain onto other areas of the carpet.
  4. After completing the first three steps, if you can still see the Kool-Aid spot, mix 2 cups of water with 1 cup of white vinegar.
  5. Using this white vinegar solution and a new cloth, repeat steps 1 through 3.
  6. If it is still visible after that, mix 1 cup of water with 1 tablespoon of ammonia.
  7. Apply this ammonia solution directly onto the remaining stain, and blot from the outside in. There is a chance the ammonia could lighten the carpet color slightly, so be sure to test the ammonia on a smaller area of carpet before applying a large amount.
  8. Once the Kool-Aid spot is no longer visible, apply cold water directly to the stain to rinse the carpet.
  9. Blot up any remaining moisture. Be sure not to leave your carpet wet — get as much of the water out as possible through blotting.
  10. Once finished, be sure to let the carpet fibers breathe (or dry) by not covering it up.
