Mmm… Pizza! Grease And Your Carpet
How to remove kitchen grease spots
For us, “Grease” brings a couple of images to mind…
- The famous musical starring John Travolta.
- The marks you have on your hands when checking on your smoking car engine.
- The oily drippings from last night’s delicious dinner.
- Of the elbow variety.
The type of grease we’ll be looking at today refers to number three: cooking grease!
Cleaning Kitchen Grease Spots
Have you ever noticed that when you attempt a do-it-yourself grease stain removal, it actually makes the spot even stickier? One of the most common places that grease gets splashed onto is the stovetop. Once splashed onto the stovetop, it can dry and will undoubtedly leave a mark. To tackle grease stain removal in your kitchen, try these methods:
Method 1: White Vinegar
Take some white vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle. Let the vinegar soak into the grease for a few minutes, then wipe the stain with a towel soaked in hot water. This should solve the problem in a matter of minutes!
Method 2: Baking Soda Scrub
Another technique to try on your kitchen’s stovetop involves using a baking soda scrub. Take a damp kitchen sponge and cover it with a bit of baking soda. The baking soda isn’t harmful to your stove, and should gradually break up the grease stains. Wipe the stain with the baking soda-covered sponge until the stain disappears.
Cleaning Carpet Grease Spots
Whether you encounter cooking grease OR machinery grease that needs to be removed from carpet, this method should work in most scenarios!
- Blot up as much of the grease spot as possible, then apply a substance like cornmeal (this acts as an absorbent).
- Take a brush with stiff bristles and brush the grease spot to break it up.
- If the grease is still visible, apply a dry-cleaning solvent (Afta Cleaning Fluid is a good one to try) using a clean sponge.
- Apply a dry spotter to the stained area. A dry spotter is made by combining 8 parts liquid dry-cleaning solvent and 1-part coconut oil (or mineral oil, which may not be as effective).
- Using an absorbent pad, cover the stain with more dry spotter solution.
- As the pad continues to pick up the stain, you’ll see this remove the grease spot from your carpet.
