How to get mustard out of your carpet.

Summer is the grilling season! From hot dogs to hamburgers, a variety of mustards are enjoyed in a variety of ways! But when this famous and delicious condiment ends up on your carpet… Yikes, that’s any property owner’s worst nightmare!

Now, when it comes to removing mustard spots, you may be looking at a few different stain types depending on which type of mustard you have. You should consult a carpet cleaning professional before attempting to remove odd spots like this on your own!

METHOD 1:

The LAST thing you want to do with mustard is aggressively scrub it! Doing so will actually make the mustard soak into the carpet fibers, making the stain permanent. Instead, take a clean cloth and blot the area gently to remove as much mustard as you can.

Next, blot the area with a solution made of 2 cups of warm water and 1 part dishwashing detergent.

In a separate bowl, create a paste by mixing 1 part hydrogen peroxide, and 3 parts detergent.

Using a spatula or spreading tool, spread the paste onto the affected area of the carpet.

Use a steam iron on its lowest setting, and line it up directly over the area. Hold it up without actually touching the carpet for 30 seconds.

Next, dip a clean towel into cold water. Continue blotting the carpet fibers to lift off any remaining mustard residue.

Pat the area dry with a clean cloth until the mustard spot is no longer visible.

As we said before, mustard spots are difficult and become stains quickly! To avoid a mustard disaster, contact Artistic Cleaners to arrange a professional carpet cleaning
